A Great Reunion Today…Shar Dluzak

Our friend Shar went to be with Jesus this morning. I am both crying and smiling. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knows her.

In Shar’s own words, “One day we will hear the words, ‘Mommy and Daddy’ again when we come before our Redeemer and see our four boys, sitting at the feet of Jesus.”

Shar is with her boys.

Please pray for Rick. He has lost all four of his children and his wife.

We posted Shar’s story a while back. Click here to read it.

Have you ever come across a really great quote, and then forgot it before you wrote it down? Well, if you’re like me, it happens a lot. So this week, we want to know what great quotes you live by. Let’s make this the greatest list of quotes ever assembled in the history of mankind. Or just a really good list. Please share. What great quotes should we know?

Lord, Please Help Her

Tonight, I played softball as I do almost every Wednesday and Thursday night. I was playing shortstop when a ground ball was hit to me. I fielded it, took a look at the runner on second base to make sure he wasn’t going to run to third, then whipped the ball to first base to try to get the batter out. Unfortunately, my throw was off-target just enough to miss the first baseman’s glove and the ball hit the batter in the head as she was about to cross first base. She dropped to the ground in an instant and started seizing. Thankfully, a nurse was on hand and ran her through many tests to see if she was alright. Although she seemed to be OK, someone called 911 and they rushed her to the ER at a local hospital to complete additional tests.

Awhile later, we received an update that this girl’s skull was cracked and that there was possibly internal bleeding.

I haven’t heard anything further but it’s likely that she’s in surgery as I type this post.

Please pray for Kristen.

Wacky Hair Day

Lauren’s school is celebrating the end of the school year by having a different theme for each day this week. Pajama day, Hat day, Wacky Hair day, etc.

Yesterday was Wacky Hair Day. Lauren bounced out of bed at 7am (VERY unlike Lauren who usually wants to sleep and sleep), ready to get her hair done.

She came up with this creation.

Lauren said she wishes every day could be Wacky Hair Day!

A Memorial Day Tribute

My grandfather fought in and survived World War II. As you can imagine, it impacted his entire life. Yet he very rarely talked about his experiences at war. In fact, he didn’t talk that often at all. He much preferred to listen, observe and let his actions do the talking.

During the Summer of 2007, we sat down with both of my grandparents for an impromptu interview. They talked about their childhoods, how they met each other, their early adult experiences, the business they ran together for more than 40 years, and their relationships with God.

Toward the end of the interview, my grandfather told us what it was like during the war. He shared a few specific instances that demonstrated his strong belief that God is always in control.

A couple of months after this interview, my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. He passed away just another couple of months after that.

I am incredibly grateful for my grandfather. He was a terrific example of a humble servant and, like other military personnel, he was willing to lay down his life to secure freedom for others. Thankfully, my grandfather survived war. Yet many who have served never came back. So today’s More About You Monday question is:

Do you know anyone who died during active duty in the military? Do you know anyone who served in the military? If so, will you please tell us about them here so we can honor them today?
