Practicing Portraits in the Snow

While in New York for Christmas, Dave’s brother Steve asked if we would take some pictures of his family. We take lots of pictures of our kids (and food!) but we haven’t ventured into portrait photography. We gave it our best shot! Afterward, Dave and I talked and decided we really should do more of this kind of thing. It’s great practice and fun too.

Steve and Sarah, thanks for being patient and letting us practice on you!

Nathan is a cutie-pie. :)

Happy birthday to Sarah (a few days late) and Steve (yesterday)! Hope you guys had wonderful birthdays this year!

Interesting note: Carmen was born on Steve and Sarah’s wedding anniversary. She came home on Steve’s birthday. She died on Steve’s parents’ wedding anniversary (They are Dave’s parents too but for the sake of this discussion, I’ll say Steve’s parents). There’s something about Steve! :)

I had a great appreciation for brilliant photographers like Rashmi before attempting something like this with you. I have an even greater appreciation afterward!

    Dave and Lana,
I think the photos are beautiful. I love the way you have Nathan in the foreground with Steve and Sarah out of focus behind him. The concept reminds me a little of the photo of your family walking away after the photo shoot with Carmen looking over your shoulder toward the camera. Focus on the kid and frame it with the family sort of thing.

Dave and Lana, thanks so much for taking time to do these pictures. We are SO very happy with how they turned out! Thanks for the birthday wishes too!
