Definitely not the thing to watch if you were already close to tears!!!!! Thank You for sharing this though. I look at Jack and Emma and I am thankful.
I have visited here so many times…reading the updates about Carmen and the rest of the family, gazing at the pictures of life together…life being lived, even the nitty gritty parts that sometimes brought me to tears…and then I sent up prayers for you because I knew that my pain couldn’t touch yours.
Tonight, while working on a Lenten Calendar project, I came across a scripture passage that immediately brought you to mind. I felt called to share it here:
New Heavens and a New Earth
Isaiah 65:20
“Never again will there be in it
an infant that lives but a few
days,
or an old man who does not live
out his years;
he who dies at a hundred
will be thought a mere youth;
he who fails to reach a hundred
will be considered accursed.”
Blessings on you and your family…and on all families of children with Tay Sachs.
Today I found this information about a recent research discovery(link below) and thought of how gracious it is that God is allowing people to discover such amazing things about the human body. I know such research is slow and comes too late to help so many beautiful children like Carmen, but there is hope for the future for others. The video about Gavin and his family is another example, like yours, of the beauty and value of each human being. Our good friends have a daughter the same age as one of our daughters. At the age of four they discovered she has a genetic disorder that has left her with brain damage that has kept mentally at an age which makes her sweet, naive, and quite vulnerable in the world. Our daughter the same age is now in grad school, studying special education. Our friends are the best of parents to their daughter. I am often struck by the differences in our daughters. I wonder at the grace they have shown in their parenting, acceptancing their daughter’s limitations and the added responsibility for their child, and their true happiness for others who don’t face such challenges. I am very proud and thankful for the heart our daughter has for people with special needs. She has learned skills beyond me to work with a variety of needs and diagnosis, and she amazes me.
I pray the research being done will very soon help many people and their families find hope and a cure for many diseases. I know and believe that ultimately, like Carmen, those in Christ will find total healing in Christ, when they leave this earthly “tent”.

Thx, Dave. Still praying for all and holding each of you close to my heart,
Praying for a cure…
