Once upon a time, there were three brothers. They all had kidneys that worked just fine.
One day, the eldest brother’s kidneys began to fail. Doctors told him that he’d need a transplant very soon. The other two brothers were tested and both were considered matches. And so there was great discussion among the three brothers about donating a kidney to the eldest brother and which of the brothers would donate.
But as these discussions took place, the kidneys of the eldest brother stabilized. They weren’t particularly effective. Yet they weren’t bad enough to warrant an immediate transplant. One day passed. Then a week. A month. A year. God had stood time still, or so it seemed. Talk of a transplant dissipated.
Almost ten years later, the kidneys of the eldest brother once again began their downward spiral and discussions about a transplant ensued. The youngest brother stepped forward and said he would be the one to donate one of his kidneys. They scheduled the transplant for April 20, 2010. They underwent additional tests to prepare for the surgery.
Now…they wait.
Lord willing, my two brothers will go under the knife one week from today and my younger brother, Steve, will donate one of his kidneys to my older brother, Wes.
I humbly request that you join me in prayer for this surgery, that all will go well and that both of my brothers will recover quickly and fully. My prayer is that come this time next week, I’ll have two brothers, each of whom has one perfectly healthy kidney.
Thanks,
Dave
You got it, Dave. Praising God for His blessings and love and forever presence. No greater love…..
We will pray indeed! My nephew, Sean, who is only 5 years younger than I am, gave one of his kidneys to his younger brother, Ryan, after they were both adults. It was an amazing journey for the two of them. They both are doing just fine…
Hi Sandy,
Thanks for sharing that.
I am Steve’s wife (the one donating the kidney). I keep hearing stories from people of successful kidney donations. It is comforting to me to hear of so many people enjoying great health (both donors and recipients) after a transplant. It’s also amazing to me how many people were born with one kidney and do just fine (people keep telling me stories of that as well).
That would be me (born with one kidney)…which is why I can’t offer mine to Wes, he’s still a little upset by that, thinks I’m being a bit selfish
. Although, I told him if I’m heading to heaven any time when he needs one he can take the one I have.
I’m reading what I posted and I want to clarify that Steve is the one donating the kidney of course! Sorry for the weird wording, I meant to clarify that I’m married to Steve, who’s the one donating the kidney!
Hi Dave, I will be praying very much. God be with you all, Joe
My husband, Art, received a kidney from his brother 12 years ago next month. It was a wonderful thing for his brother to share.
We will pray for the entire family to feel strength, know peace and find healing. Please update us as the time grows nearer.
Take care.
you can get updates at http://www.coddingtontribe.com – - – wes insists he is going to twitter during the surgery – - that should be interesting
Lana- I will keep your family in my prayers!!!!
A testimony for you – two of my uncles did the same many years ago. I can’t remember how many, but more than 10 I’m sure. They are both alive and well with a good kidney each today – and they were much older when they did this. So, we pray Phil 4:6&7 with you and for your brothers.
Dave, I as well as our intercer team will be praying for brothers and their families at this time.
