One Month of Hope

Yesterday I took Hope to her one month doctor appointment. One month! Can you believe it?! Hope is now 9 lbs. 2 oz and 21 1/4 inches long.

Here’s some random stuff about Hope:

  • When the nurse first handed newborn Hope to me, I fully expected to have that moment when new baby and new mommy stare at each other in awe. Nope, Hope came out wailing and kept right on through our special moment. Turned out her blood sugar was low, 32, and she was not happy. After the nurse gave her a bottle of formula, she cheered up.
  • Hope was a sleepy newborn. Very, very sleepy. Eat, poop, sleep, eat, poop, sleep. I’m glad I got to experience the sleepy newborn stage with Hope. Moms need more rest in the beginning and Hope gave me that.
  • Hope can sleep through anything. No white noise machine here!
  • Hope started giving us little smiles right around 4 weeks old. Couple of nights ago, Little Miss Hope decided to stay wide awake from 2-4am. She looked up at me, smiled and said, “Goo.”
  • Hope is a spitty baby. She goes through about six bibs per day.
  • Hope does NOT like baths. It is like trying to wash a kitten who is clinging on for dear life to whatever she can grab.
  • Hope likes to be snuggled up next to Carmen but she does not like it when Carmen has a seizure and whacks her in the head! (After that incident, we now keep Hope far away from Carmen’s arms!)
  • We are enjoying Hope. It’s an exhausting yet beautiful time. Because of Carmen, we stare at her a little longer. And hold her a little tighter.
  • Lana holding Hope after bath

Carmen update: The new antibiotic seems to be helping Carmen’s eye. Hopefully in the next few days her eye will be totally healed.

Thank you Sarah for the wonderful chicken/mashed potatoes dinner. I’m definitely going to make that chicken!

Happy 1 month birthday Hope! It is amazing how time flies. Enjoy all of the new firsts! We are always in total awe of John and take nothing that he can do for granted like we did with Kyla and William. We have named hime “John the Healer” because he has healed some of the wounds that GM1 had given to us. Hugs to Carmen (and Lauren and Hope) and hoping that her eye will feel better soon. Thinking of you always and keeping you in our prayers. Oralea

p.s. I laughed how you describe the bath with Hope – John was the same and it is a perfect description.

So happy that the antibiotic is starting to work for Carmen. Layla just got over having pink eye in BOTH eyes…it wasn’t pleasant…

I remember after I had Layla, Kaiden had been diagnosed a couple weeks before and everything Layla did I took a picture of or a video. It had been a while, (Kaylee is 7), since I had a VERY active baby in the house and every single milestone she hit I was amazed and truly blessed by each one, even the little ones that most people don’t realize are amazing, (and even I took for granted when Kaylee hit them). Layla is 22 months now & she is so sweet, gentle, and just wonderful with Kaiden. I was sad that she would never get to hear his laugh and see his smile and get to enjoy him before the Tay-Sachs really started to affect him, but I realize now that she has her own special bond with him that’s not anything less than Kaylee’s, just different. She always wants to sit with him, but knows not to get too crazy and try and play with him too much. She’s just happy to give him sugars, a hug, and of course bring him every single one of her Teddy Bears!!

It is exhausting, but absoultutley worth it!!

    Praying for your family always.

    I can’t believe it’s been a month already!
That picture is beautiful. She is such a doll. You must be having so much fun with her.

My goodness, how she’s grown. She is beautiful, like her sisters. And, indeed, those eyes are spectacular! Who do you see Hope looking like most?

Oh my, I hadn’t thought of that, Betty, until I read your question and scrolled back up to look again — LAUREN! (At least, that’s my two cents!) :)

Everyone thought Lauren looked just like me as a baby (except for the big dimples). Yet she looks way more like Lana than me today.

Most people have said Hope looks more like me (or rather her cousins from two different families on my side of the tree).

Yet when I look at side-by-side baby pictures of Hope and Lauren, I find it hard to distinguish them from each other.

      Dave!!!

I thought Dave, too. I remember Grace’s picture of Lauren as a baby. I thought she looked like Doug and Grace would adamantly tell me NO, LANA…. Now I see what she was telling me…. Beautiful three girls, nevertheless (my favorite bible word)!!!!

I love that picture! I am jealous Hope was a sleepy baby! My twinsies were always alert and never really slept…I yearned for sleep and still do! I am so happy for your family!

    • Lana March 4, 2010 at 6:07 am #

Hi Brittany, well it’s 6am and I am sitting here with a squirmy baby who has been awake for a loooooong time so I am yearning for sleep too! :)

Lana, you are absolutely beautiful! And, regarding who Hope looks like: she looks like herself, but… I have seen those EXACT expressions (as seen in her other posted photos) on her daddy. :~)
