Newborn Hope: A Short Film

Dear Hope,

Nine days ago, you arrived in this world in a flash! This first week with you seems to have gone by just as quickly. You are changing before our very eyes and it’s so exciting to watch you grow.

I know you can’t read yet but I don’t want to miss this opportunity to tell you a few things. These are things I tell your sisters often. You need to know them as well:

  • I love you bigger than the entire universe! I will never be a perfect father but please know that I really do love you and am working really hard to be the best dad possible.
  • Your mom and I are the luckiest people in the entire world because we get to be your mommy and daddy and your sisters’ mommy and daddy. Sometimes I pinch myself just to make sure I’m not simply dreaming.
  • God has an amazing plan for your life. It may or may not be the plan you have for your own life but I promise you that His plan is good. You don’t want to miss it!

Here is a short film I made especially for you. I’m pretty sure that you’ll be embarrassed by it long before you appreciate it. But I do hope that you appreciate it someday. I plan on making a bunch of these to help capture your life story.

Love,

Daddy

Wherefore Art Thou, Tooth Fairy?

When Lauren discovered her first loose tooth a couple of weeks ago, she did not eat much of anything for a day and a half. She was so worried she would swallow her tooth. Thankfully, she got over that fear. Today, the tooth came out. She was so proud. Maybe it’s just postpartum hormones for me and sympathy hormones for Dave, but we both got tears in our eyes. Our little girl keeps growing up.

Sweetness

Hope is one week old today. She is being very gracious to mommy and daddy by sleeping 4 hour stretches at night. She is a content and peaceful baby.

I look at Hope and cannot believe she is ours. NY Grandpa asked Lauren if we should return Hope. Lauren said, “NO! She’s ours!”

I wish we could freeze time. This precious newborn stage will be gone so soon….

30 Inches of Snow!!!

We got bombarded with snow yesterday and today. Final count = 30 inches. The snow plows haven’t even begun clearing out our neighborhood.

Because of all the snow, our power went out around 11pm last night. I woke up at 1am, freezing. My first thought was Carmen. She cannot hold her temperature so keeping her warm is very, very important. I checked with the night nurse, and she had bundled Carmen up like an Eskimo. All I could see was Carmen’s little face. I went back to bed and put Hope right next to me. You know you are cold when you pull your sleeping, warmly swaddled newborn out of her bassinet and stick her next to you, hoping she might warm you up! That tiny little body did help keep me warm.

Thankfully, the power came back on a few hours later.

Speaking of the night nurse, Salem WALKED home (about 2 miles) because there was no way to drive out of our neighborhood. God bless Salem!

Dave said he needs a chiropractic visit after all the shoveling today!

Here are some pictures from today.

Adventures in Babysitting!

We have a wonderful babysitter for Hope. She stays right by the baby. She doesn’t watch TV, text message or talk on the phone. She is very attentive.

Today, Hope took a two hour nap right next to her favorite babysitter! The babysitter didn’t sleep a wink. The babysitter isn’t so sure about this squawky new thing in her home!
