Family Fun, Labor Day 2009

By Dave ©, September 16, 2009 7:32 am

Last week we went to Black Hills Regional Park to enjoy a nice day at the park. We had a great time, enjoying Chick-Fil-A for lunch, watching the boaters, blowing bubbles and playing on the playground.

In case you can’t see the video above, you can click here to watch it on YouTube.

PS. Lana wants to you know that she didn’t carve the wood.

Your videos are always AMAZING!!! I liked where Carmen was kicking her leg out of her stroller. :-) Hope she’s doing well. Thinking of you! Love and hugs, Nicki (Angel Riley’s Mommy)

Thanks Nicki! I liked that part too and thought it was neat that she was “tapping to the beat of the music”. I noticed that only after completing this little project and watching it back a few times.

Great video! We enjoyed the Labor Day give-away at CFA too. I have a hard time picturing Lana running around with a pocket knife and carving hearts. :)

What software do you use to edit them? I need to do a video for a college work but I don’t know where to find a good edition program =/

Thanks Juliana. You are very kind.

I use Final Cut and really like it although there is definitely a learning curve.

If you are only looking to do this one project, I’d probably recommend either iMovie (Mac) or MovieMaker (PC).

      • Juliana says:

Hey Dave, thank you so much for the recommendations, I tried to find some test version of Final Cut but I didn’t find it, so I guess I’m going with MovieMaker! It fits my needs :D
        Thank you again!

        • Dave © says:

Glad I could help. I made my first few videos with MovieMaker. I think you’ll like it!

PS. I’d love to see your movie when it’s done. Please let me know if you post it online.

          • Juliana says:

Sure Dave, actually I have two youtube channels, it’s /julianaaupair or /jumazaliaupair, there are a couple videos I made for my au pair application and some family videos, you can check them out if you want, some of them I edited with moviemaker cause I have used it for a while, but I am for sure going to put the college one there too but that will be in portuguese, hehe, I’ll let you know! :D

“do it again” loved hearing that lil voice…poignant shots …amazing.

Yeah, I probably should have dialed down the music and dialed up the dialog. There were a couple of cute things she said that are hard to decipher.

      Thanks. Glad you like it.

  5. What a lovely little video…..Thank you so much for sharing. Your family has a lovely, calm sense about you as you explore the simple things in life. We tend to enjoy those simple, easily overlooked moments also. It comes from having to deal with unthinkable sadness I believe. We see joy in the smallest things……like caterpillars! :)

I can’t speak for others but I’ve found that to be true of myself. I am definitely learning to value the little things more than I used to. It’s one of the positive impacts of this terrible disease.

Hi Dave, Lauren sure has talented parents and will have some great memories she can watch any time. I hope every one is doing good. God bless. In Christ, Joe

Dave, That was really beautiful. I love the scene of Carmen with Lana and Lauren having such fun in the background.

    • Dave © says:

      Thank you.

That scene, along with other similar scenes in other movies/photos, is tough for me. Without dwelling too much on the negative, that scene reminds me that Carmen often sits on the sidelines in life, that she can’t be the one bouncing up and down opposite her older sister and that, once again, Lauren is playing with her parents instead of her sibling. Lauren has friends and plays with them often but friends aren’t the same as siblings (IMHO).

This scene is a subtle reminder that God’s plan is very different than our plan. And as tough as it is sometimes to not see our plan come to pass, God’s plan is still better! There is a brighter future ahead of us all!

That scene brings tears to my eyes. Hope that makes sense.

      • Texas Grandma says:

Yes, it does make sense and I totally agree with you. The more I experience (that’s a nicer way of saying ‘the older I get’) the more I see that God’s plan is perfect in every way and that my plans just get in the way and cause all kinds of problems (destruction, pain, lack of fruitfulness, etc.) With God’s plan for Carmen I continue to remember the phrase in the ‘Little Hands, Little Feet’ song – “She was born to live eternally.”
I think what touches you so deeply in that scene is what makes me love it. It is so real and so emotional. I always love things that make me feel deeply even if it is sadness that I feel. It’s like a beautiful poem that expresses reality so clearly. I hope that makes sense……
