A Monica the Magnificent Creation

Monica the Magnificent brought over one of her adorable creations. She framed the month of July from the year Carmen was born. She added a small inset of July 2009 and Carmen’s 3rd birthday. She also put Carmen’s birth statistics, Carmen’s pick-up day in January 2007 and the Guatemalan flag. Cute, huh?!

(Just in case you don’t know, Monica the Magnificent is a volunteer for Hospice, Caring, a wonderful organization that helps families cope with terminal illness. For almost two years Monica has come to our house once per week and helped. Lauren considers Monica a very good friend!)

Prayers From a Child

You may remember my brother Kevin. I wrote a birthday post about him this year. Last night Kevin called and mentioned that he wrote to Ivan, the child he sponsors through Compassion International, and told him about Carmen. Ivan is an eleven year old boy from Guatemala. Kevin said that he told Ivan that he has a niece from Guatemala who is terminally ill. He said that Ivan wrote back and said that he will be praying for Carmen.

Ivan doesn’t have much but, like all of us, he can pray. This meant a lot to me.

This picture isn’t Ivan. In fact, this little boy isn’t even from Guatemala. Dave took this picture when he went to Peru a few years ago to work in an orphanage. But, something about Kevin’s story reminded me of this picture so I looked through our files and found it.

The Carmen Contest: Another Reminder

Is It a Boy? Or Is It a Girl?

As you know, Lana is about twenty weeks pregnant. We went to the doctor yesterday morning with hopes of finding out if the baby is a boy or girl. We were a bit surprised that the doctor didn’t have a more sophisticated method to determine the child’s sex. Watch the video below for our reenactment.

Happy 38 Month Birthday to Carmen!

Happy 38 month birthday to Carmen (a couple of days late)! Carmen turned 38 months on the 20th.

Carmen doesn’t have much. She can’t see. She can’t move. She can’t enjoy food. She can’t laugh or even cry. But, she does have glorious HAIR!
