Carmen update: Carmen hasn’t had a fever in a couple of days but still sounds more congested than usual and has a lot of thick secretions. We haven’t started an antibiotic yet but will keep watching her closely.
Sometimes this journey with Tay Sachs is overwhelming. Sometimes just dealing with everyday life is overwhelming. During those days, we appreciate moments of humor.
This morning, I got up to let the night nurse leave. She went downstairs to the foyer and called up to me that her shoes were gone! We looked around. No shoes. She laughed about it and said not to worry, she had an extra pair in the car. I had to smile as she walked across the parking lot in her socks! At first, I thought Dave accidentally took them on his business trip today. I gave him a call and he said no but that he might have packed them in his mom’s car when she left our house yesterday. So, I called my mother-in-law and sure enough, when she unloaded her car late last night in Pennsylvania, she found a pair of shoes that didn’t belong to her.
Now, what I find most humorous about this is that last time my mother-in-law came for a visit, she took home the same nurse’s Pilates exercise video! The video somehow made its way from Carmen’s room to the living room and into my mother-in-law’s tote bag! So, this visit, my mother-in-law brought the video back for the nurse.
When I called the nurse and told her that the shoes went home with my mother-in-law, she laughed and said, “Don’t worry! I am sure I’ll get them back just like the video!”
I promise that my mother-in-law is not a kleptomaniac!
Love you Grace! And THANK YOU for being a wonderful mother-in-law! I married Dave because he was cute and I was head-over-heels in love. I didn’t think about the fact that I was marrying into a new family too. I thank God regularly that despite my naivety, He picked the perfect in-laws for me!
