“I would rather have someone steal from me than to be the one who steals”….I don’t know where this came from but I asked the prisoners I worked with which they would prefer. A few said they would rather someone would steal from them but most couldn’t understand why anyone would prefer to be a victim. I tried to use this whenever they complained about someone mistreating them. One guy had burglarized over a thousand homes but was furious because someone stole some things that he would have inherited from his mother while he was in prison. He was quite intelligent but insisted that it was different when he and his mother were the victims.
My very favorite quote (I guess it’s about character?) is “God gives the very best to those who leave the choice with Him.” I can’t remember this one either but it was the same guy who said something like, ” I have yet to see what God can do with a life totally yielded to Him.”
