Carmen update: Carmen is doing a bit better. We took both girls to the doctor on Friday. The doctor said that most likely they both had a virus and they should be better by Monday. Both girls haven’t had a fever in a couple of days but both are still coughing. Carmen is too weak for much of a cough anymore…sounds more like spasms. We have been giving her lots of extra Vest treatments (the machine that jiggles up mucus). We don’t have a Cough Assist machine but I am wondering if we should get one.
Friday afternoon we took Carmen for blood work to figure out why she is retaining water. The lab tech could not find a vein so we are going to try again on Monday.
Carmen still has C-diff. Boo hoo! I am going to call her gastroenterologist on Monday and see what we should do next. We haven’t tried a fecal transplant yet. Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Apparently it has successfully treated C-diff in Scandanvia and Canada. Thanks to Danielle for enlightening us. I really can’t think of anything much grosser but ANYTHING to get rid of C-diff!
Both Dave and I are under the weather too. I feel dizzy and Dave can’t stop coughing. Hopefully we will be well by Christmas.
Despite all the sickness, we had a wonderful weekend with Dave’s older brother, wife and kids. Thanks so much for coming to see us! Lauren had a BLAST!
Friday my sister-in-law and I went to a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) cookie exchange. Last week, pre-sickness, Lauren helped me make lemon cookies! Here are some pictures.

What is C-diff?
I love ya!
Can you believe that they had a women with C-Diff on Grey’s Anatomy a couple of weeks ago and they did a fecal transfer.
I didn’t think that was real so I didn’t mention it to you. (and I also would have felt a little wierd giving you medical advice from a trashy show I like to watch!) I hope everyone is feeling better soon!!
The cough assist has been very helpful for Elise. Sometimes, it brings up tons and tons of mucus. I hope you can figure out the C-diff situation. I had never heard of a fecal transplant. Yuck, but whatever will work! The cookie baking looked like fun. Caroline and Lauren have many common interests!
It’s funny that Kim mentioned Grey’s – I immediately thought of the episode! The cookie’s looked great! Care to share the recipe??
Love that you can talk about C. Diff and cookies in the same post. Another vote for the cough assist. Your DME company might have one you can just rent.
FYI: It WAS on Grey’s but they so did it wrong. LOL. Yuck.
Have to confess! I watched that Grey’s Anatomy episode to. It looked pretty gross! Whatever works though. With my Crohn’s Disease, I know what it’s like to have the similar symptoms of C-Diff. Not fun. Can’t imagine what Carmen must being going through. Am praying for you all. Cookies looked good. YUM!!!!
Hi, I hope you all get better and Carmen will be past c-diff. Lauren, your cookies look delicious. God bless you all. In Christ ,Joe
I got the recipe from Heather, http://whittakerwoman.typepad.com/. She had a cookie recipe contest and the lemon cookies won. We thought they were OK. We are totally chocolate chip cookie people though!
Beat together 1 – 8oz. container of thawed whipped topping and 2 eggs. Add any cake mix (I used lemon) and mix. Drop by teaspoonfuls into a bowl of powdered sugar and roll just to coat. (They will be a bit thick and messy). Bake at 350 degrees on a lightly greased baking sheet for about 8 minutes.
Oh, and I am so totally unaffected by poop that a post about C-diff and cookies seems normal to me! I am guessing that we have cleaned up 500+ diarrhea messes in the past 4.5 months!
I am still very much affected by poop, especially the very messy, very stinky, and very much everywhere kind of poop.
But that just tells you that Lana has cleaned up about 492 diarrhea messes in the past 4.5 months and I’ve cleaned up about 10-12 of them.
Lana, That reminds me of my days as a Secretary to the Gastroenterology Dept at Bassett. I thought nothing of talking about poop and other bodily secretions while I was eating dinner. My family sometimes got very grossed out and would tell me to stop talking about work.
My office was right outside the lab area and I got used to smells and noises that you couldn’t believe.
