Bless This Child

Carmen’s Hospice nurse, Leslie, gave me a decorative plate for Christmas. I cannot think of a gift with a more perfect message.

To Carmen:

“Lord, look down from heaven above and touch this special child with love. Protect and guide this little one, until each and every day is done. Remind us often that it’s true: This little life is a gift from you. A miracle you’ve sent our way, Lord bless this little child today.”

OK, so there’s nothing fancy here. But I wanted to make a quick video using the new software I am learning. Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas! Love, Dave, Lana, Lauren and Carmen

Luke 2:1-20 (NIV)

The Birth of Jesus

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

The Shepherds and the Angels

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Merry Christmas Eve

By Lana, December 24, 2008 10:22 pm

Carmen update: Carmen seems to be doing fairly well. She is no longer coughing and doesn’t have a fever. She is on her second week of Alinia (nitazoxanide) for the C-diff but so far it isn’t helping. On to the fecal transplant we go! Ha!

We had a nice Christmas Eve. We each opened one present and saved the rest for tomorrow morning. I cooked breakfast for dinner: chocolate chip and plain pancakes, hash browns, and scrambled eggs with cheese. We have enough for tomorrow morning so we can have leftovers on Christmas morning!

We hope you all had a very merry Christmas Eve!

One of Dave’s coworkers gave him a Starbucks ornament for Christmas. She knows him very well!

P.S. Did anyone notice the burned out light on our tree?

A Thankful Post – Night Nurses

By Lana, December 21, 2008 3:15 pm

A year ago today a kind lady in scrubs knocked on our door and thus began Carmen’s night nursing care. That first night was tough. I didn’t know what to expect and I didn’t want to give up any of Carmen’s care. But, we desperately needed sleep.

We’ve had our ups and downs with nursing care. Some of you may remember the Robinul/Tylenol mess when a nurse overdosed Carmen on both medications. I didn’t trust anyone with Carmen for a long time after that.

We prayed and prayed that God would send the perfect nurses for Carmen. He answered those prayers. We now have two RNs who are competent and easy to have in our home. I feel that Carmen is safe and very well cared for. Our prayer now is that they will stay!

One of Carmen’s nurses braids her hair. I think you can see the braid in this picture.
