What Skills Would You Like to Have?

I would like to:

1) Take professional looking pictures. The kind that make you go “WOW!”

2) Speak fluent Spanish.

I absolutely love beautiful pictures. They make me happy. Especially razor-sharp pictures that pop off the page. I am finding that actually taking a picture like this is impossible when you don’t know what you are doing with your camera! So, I’ve been reading up on photography, practicing, and making my “wish list” of lenses! I have a loooonnnngggg way to go!

Before Carmen’s diagnosis, I felt very strongly that Carmen needed to know Spanish. We live in a very diverse area with a large Hispanic population. I didn’t want Carmen to grow up here and not speak Spanish so my thought was that we all needed to learn Spanish! (Dave speaks some Spanish but he would like to be fluent.) Lauren took a Spanish class and loved it. After Carmen’s diagnosis, learning Spanish dropped off my radar. But, I have hopes that someday we will learn the language and that someday we will go back to Guatemala.

I have no plans to actually start learning Spanish at this point but it is a skill I would love to have!

What skill(s) would you like to have???

Dave took this picture yesterday and I think it is really, really good! These are roses from my birthday.

Oh WOW, what a beautiful picture! You both have such an eye and your focus is outstanding. That truly pops off the page.
A long time interest of mine has been traveling. I would like to learn the trade of travel agent.
Photography is very intriguing and I’ve also yearned to learn to paint/draw. Always seemed like there should be more evident talent and therefore, I never searched for lessons. Hmmmm… now that I think of it, I’d like to learn to sing. My kids have strongly suggested (tongue in cheek) that I seriously take lessons… Ha Ha Ha. Thanks for asking and causing me to dream…. Blessings on You All….

Hi, You all take great pictures. Hope is a wonderful gift we sometimes take for granted but what kind of life would we live without it. Since my accident I have wanted to have a hotdog cart. Sounds kind of silly I suppose and it will most likely never happen but I still hope for it. God bless and go for it, whatever it is. In Christ, Joe

I would love to be able to play piano. It is something that has always been in the back of my mind and I never got around to fulfilling it. I love music and can’t read a note of it.

I would also like to speak another language.

Sorry, I wanted to comment on the picture of the roses and forgot before I clicked off. Another Senior moment. HaHa.

That is one of the most beautiful pictures I have ever seen. It is like you could just reach in there and pick them up.

I would LOVE to be fluent in another language – but 4 years of Spanish (3 in high school and 2 semesters in college) made me realize that I do NOT have the gift of languages!!

I would love to have the skill of being a great communicator – saying the right word at the right moment – not always wishing I had said this or that after the fact!

I would also love to have the skill of demonstrating love others – in ways that they would know and feel they are loved – by me and by God!

And (this is for Betty!), I would love to travel with you when you become a travel agent!! – - anywhere – just to see the world would be a dream come true!! – btw – is traveling the world a skill??? especially when one does not have the gift of fluency in another language!!??

Lana, you take wonderful photos because you’re a wonderful person.

There are two skills I would love to have:
    • Knowing the Bible inside and out; being able to use it in everyday conversations (but not in an annoying way).
    • Story telling, specifically via film/video.

PS. I would also like to have the skill of knowing when to listen and when to respond. I usually repond when I should listen and listen when I should respond…or respond without listening.

Oh yes, what Dave wants. Knowing the Bible fully and using it effectively. Then, to listen and respond….. and listen and ….. Ah, a true change of life for me. And, hey NY Grandma, I know the love of your friendship… you’ve got that skill honed.

Thank you again, Lana, for this blog. You and Dave and your girls are such beautiful blessings…. gloriously skilled.

I’d like to speak Spanish as well. Our church is giving free Spanish classes at the start of the new year and Ben and I plan to take them. I’d also like to write a book someday. Not sure what it’s to be about, but something profound I’m sure.

I would like to be able to help people through Biblical counseling, to be able to understand what their needs and hurts are and then to help them to find answers and to experience healing. I’m trying to start a part-time private counseling practice and I saw my first client yesterday. I loved it!!
I also want to learn Spanish. I found an online site that is very good and I’ve learned a few phrases.
I want so much to learn to be content and calm in all circumstances, putting all my trust in God and knowing that He is in control and always knows what’s best for me.
And I want to learn to love others with Christ’s love.

  13. Sarah M. November 12, 2008 at 3:27 pm #

Skills I would love to posess: Discernment, being able to give a reason for the hope I have in Christ in a respectful way and not to forget everything I believe when that moment arises, patience, photography, the ability to teach Turbo Kick or Jazzercise classes (my memory is horrible, I would have the class grape-vining left and right for an hour!)

    Sarah
p.s. Thought maybe you might know of people interested in adopting a child with down syndrome – saw a great article in the Washington Post Sunday about this and went to this website – pass it on if you know anyone who might be interested – thanks!

Hi! So nice to meet you! I LOVE your website! I have it bookmarked and will be adding it to my blogroll next time I update.

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. Small world, isn’t it?

I am a nurse, so I plan to take a lot more time to read through your blog and website. It sounds very interesting as well as informative.

By the way, photography for me has went from an interest to a serious hobby. I am always trying to perfect my skills, but I have a LONG way to go.

I also want to travel more…experience life outside of my little bubble.
