Guatemala Adoption Ornament

Every year I buy or make one Christmas ornament for each of my girls. My plan is that when Lauren grows up and has a home of her own, she can take her box of Christmas ornaments (Dave’s parents did this and his ornaments are very special to him and he is NOT normally sentimental!). Carmen’s ornaments will hang on our tree forever as a reminder of our Guatemalan princess.

This year, I ordered the following for Carmen’s Christmas ornament:

The blue in the middle of the heart is the shape of Guatemala!

Daphne, mom to two beautiful girls born in Guatemala, is selling these for $12.50 each, which includes shipping. You can pay directly with paypal on her site, www.guatemalanharvest.com

Daphne is donating 100% of the proceeds towards building a playground at New Dawning Christian School in San Juan La Laguna, Guatemala. To learn more about the New Dawning Christian School, visit this website: www.childrenoflakeatitlan.com/Home.asp.

I know some families with children from Guatemala read our blog so I wanted to tell you about this ornament! And thanks to Martina for sending me the link!

What Dave may not have told you about is the year we unpacked all our Christmas ornaments and found that moisture had gotten into the box. We had mistakenly packed some ornaments made with some kind of starch, flour mixture with all the rest of our ornaments. The moisture rotted all the ornaments made of this materials AND – rusted all of our several-year collection of brass ornaments – and ruined some of the other ornaments made of natural materials. A sad lesson I hope none of you will have to learn. Wrap those ornaments carefully and separately and keep in a very dry place.

Sorry, Dave. There should have been an ornament for every year since you were born.

I never thought about doing this when my own were litte, but all of my Grandchildren have ornaments from the year of their birth right on through. I had thought I wouldstop at 21 or at least when they got married, but it has turned into a tradition and they still all get them every year.

My Grandson lost his life in November of his Senior Year in CV-S but his Mom still hangs his on her tree every year and always will. I never knew at the time how special they would be to her.

Thanks so much for posting the link to the ornament website! I am the mother of 2 boys, ages 5 and 3, from Guatemala. It’s so hard to find unique ornaments relating to adoption and/or their heritage.

What a wonderful cause and what a beautiful addition to our family ornament collection.

P.S. Your family is always in my prayers.

Thank you for posting this website link. I have two little girls adopted from Guatemala, age 4 and almost 3. I love finding things related to their birth country and also try to get a special ornament each year.
I read your blog often and pray for your family. Carmen is a beautiful little girl and your family is so blessed to have become her mommy and daddy. Lauren is a cutie also!
