About to Bust out a Smile!

Carmen update: Carmen is doing better. She is on an antibiotic, Clindamycin, for 10 days. She looks more alert and sounds less congested. And she hasn’t had a fever since we started the antibiotic 3 days ago. She continues to have daily diarrhea. I dropped off a two day stool sample yesterday. Carmen’s pediatrician is retesting for C-diff (Clostridium Difficile Colitis), an infection that can be caused by antibiotic use. We switched to Neocate formula so hopefully this will also help Carmen’s digestive issues. Overall, Carmen is doing well!

Edited to add: I just got a call from Carmen’s pediatrician and Carmen does have C-diff. She will be on Flagyl 4 times per day for 14 days to try to get rid of it. Poor Carmen! Two months of diarrhea is no fun at all. We tested for C-diff a while back and the test came back negative. I sure am glad we retested! Apparently it is highly contagious via contact with poop so I sure hope Dave and I and the nurses don’t get it! Lauren stays about 10 feet away from poop diapers so she should be OK.

Dave and I are working on our first answer to your questions and will post this weekend. Great questions!

Thanks to my friend, Karen, who watched Carmen yesterday so I could go to Lauren’s preschool singing. As I was leaving, my neighbor came over and Carmen’s Hospice health aid came by so three grown-ups watched Carmen while I was out! Thanks to Karen for lunch too!

Most of the facial expressions Carmen makes are during seizures. Carmen stopped smiling at 17 months old. Every once in a while we capture a look that makes us smile. Doesn’t it look like Carmen is just about ready to bust out a big smile?!
