NYC Ten Year Anniversary Trip

By Lana, August 10, 2008 4:11 pm

Carmen is not doing too well today. Her breathing is labored and she is very congested. Last night she had several episodes where her heart rate was erratic. No fever so that is good. Thank you for your continued prayers.

Last weekend, Dave and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary. We decided to go to our very favorite place, New York City. Our good friends, Eric and Claudia, stayed at our house and took care of Carmen. Lauren was in upstate NY with her grandparents.

We have been to NYC many times and even spent a summer in Manhattan for Dave’s work. This time, our goal was to have a wonderful, relaxing weekend. We walked around Central Park, went to Nike Town and walked up and down 5th Avenue. We went to Times Square at night. We walked around Greenwich Village and got Dave’s favorite pizza and a pizza to go. We truly had a wonderful time.

So, a huge thanks to my in-laws and to Claudia and Eric for giving us the opportunity to celebrate our 10 year anniversary! It was no easy task for Claudia and Eric to come in and deal with all of Carmen’s machines and medications and daily medical issues. But, we knew they would be incredibly capable and they were!

Since I can now post stuff without Dave’s help, I am sneaking in a picture of Dave and his favorite pizza place from our NYC trip! Hope he approves! Happy Anniversary Dave! You promised life would always be interesting with you and you have certainly kept that promise! Love you lots!

Glad you guys had some fun in NYC! Nancy and I spent the weekend in Houston. We visited the San Jacinto Monument near Deer Park. San Jac is the birthplace of Texas in April, 1836. Santa Ana surrendered to Sam Houston after a 20 minute battle.

    Love you,

    Dad

    Hi Lana and Dave!

It has been a while since I checked this site, but I’ve been thinking of you lately and can’t believe you were up here in NYC last weekend! I was actually working last Saturday and wish I could have met up with you, since my job is very close to Times Square. Well, happy anniversary, and please let me know the next time you guys make a trip up this way.

I really enjoyed the photo of Lana looking down at Carmen. You’ve put so much love into your care for her. I know God gave you Carmen as a special blessing for both of you, despite the tough times. I need to check your site more often, as I had not realized how critical Carmen was at this point.

Charlene Wright sent me some photos of a birthday party your mom helped host for her. I enjoyed seeing your mom and Kevin in the photos. They looked so happy and great, as always. It’s great to hear your mom and brothers were able to visit recently. I know your mom would love to live closer to you so she could see you and your kids more often.

I am still working in the garment industry here, for a new company now that my old employer closed his operations. I wouldn’t mind returning to Texas or Oklahoma someday, though. NYC is great, but nothing beats the friends I have down south.

May the Lord give you His strength for these days.

    Dear Carmen,
I hope you are feeling better today! I love the photos your mommy posted of you and your sister! So sweet! Siblings really do share a special bond.

    Hugs and prayers,
    Kim

PS: Please wish your mommy and daddy a Happy 10th Anniversary for me!
